Disney

I’m 21, living away from what I call home, interning at a pretty good place, about to graduate, and I LOVE Disney movies. I’ve been called childish by many on numerous occasions and to those people I say,”Die.”

Don’t  get me wrong, I have nothing against those who don’t like Disney, but come on. I think I’m entitled to loving whichever movies I want to. I mean, what’s not to like? It’s mostly movies filled with talking animals! So, The Lion King (all the parts) is a personal favourite. The movie has everything: Family, drama, death, a brilliant motto, love, friendship, the importance of taking responsibility, etc. The list is so long, there is no way in hell I was going to be able to list it all down.

The motto- Hakuna Matata is probably the best thing that happened to the world. For Pete’s sake, it means No Worries. I quote it all the time; mostly the wrong times which is why many of my friends may want to kill me. Then we have the song We Are One sung by Simba and Kiara. Forgive me for quoting a meme, but that song is so deep Adele might be rolling in it. Listen to it. Seriously.

We then have Mulan, another favourite. It’s a movie that says fuck the rules, go out there and do what you think is right. It also promotes gender equality. Yeah! And the song! The song! I’ll Make a Man Out of You: was I the only one who wanted to master the martial arts after watching that number?

These movies always have an inlaying, brilliant message. I know, it’s fiction and life doesn’t ever go as smoothly. But, what can I say, I’m a dreamer of sorts. What makes life so brilliant is the hope of a happy ending in every possible way (and no, I’m not talking about the cliché happily ever after’s with the hopelessly handsome prince). Wow, that got a little preachy. But people get the point right? Something out of the ordinary, just a hint of magic. That’s what everyone needs. Disney’s always given me a hint of it, and I’ll love it forever because of just that.
